BABELLI MOTORCAR COMPANY is honored to present this 1955 FORD F-100
Few trucks are as beloved as the Ford F100, and this 1955 example offers a frame-off restoration and a beautiful (and unusual) medium blue paint job. Old trucks are one of the collector car market's hottest segments, and vehicles like this F100 are the reason why. Stylish, practical, and just plain fun, this one offers a lot of smiles for not a lot of cash.
Many of these trucks lived hard lives on the farm, where they were tools, not fashion statements or collector pieces. But occasionally you run across a truck that probably served as a delivery vehicle or some other light-duty job, and as a result it is nicely preserved, which is apparently the story on this one. There's no sign of rust, no evidence or repaired sheetmetal, and the way it fits together so tightly suggests it has never been run to the limits of endurance. The blue paint has a lovely soft shine that's very period appropriate, not too harsh and clear like modern paint, but rather a glow that looks simply wonderful, even under the lights in our studio. The original white grille and bumpers are correct, the V8 badges are authentic, and the lovely maple bed looks fantastic. There have been no modifications to the body, and it isn't over-loaded with accessories as happens to many restored trucks. Instead, it's just an honest old truck that looks like a million bucks.
Honest and simple continues inside, where a matching blue bench seat has been recovered in proper long-grain vinyl upholstery. A rubber floor mat makes cleanup as easy as hosing out the interior (not that you'd do that), and painted door panels are both durable and easy to maintain. The simple dash offers a fairly complete array of gauges, and the slender shifter for the column-mounted 3-speed manual transmission hides behind a jet-inspired steering wheel. Being a truck, there is no radio, and it obviously hails from a sunny, warm climate, although there is a heater, which was still an option in 1955. Preservation is excellent, and thanks to high-quality materials and workmanship, you can expect it to look this good for quite a while yet.
The flathead was gone by 1955, replaced by Ford's smooth and powerful Y-block. In the F100, it displaced 239 cubic inches, the same as the top flathead, but made considerably more power and torque. Recently rebuilt, this F100 runs beautifully and cruises down the road effortlessly at modern highway speeds, thanks to a set of 3.91 gears out back. Finished in bright Ford Orange, the engine bay is nicely detailed with a few modifications like long-tube headers and dual exhaust, which give it a fantastic voice. The suspension is all stock, and it rolls on color-matched steel wheels with dog-dish hubcaps and 215/85/15 blackwall radials that do an excellent impression of the original bias-ply treads.
